How long do you have to be awake during the night to call it “insomnia”? This morning I woke up at 3:45 and went back to sleep around 5:30. It felt like insomnia while I was laying there. There was a strange medley of “Janie’s Crying”, “Dancing in the Streets” (Jagger/Bowie version), and “Float On” going through my head, but this morning it’s changed to “I Want Candy” and “3 am”. But on a positive note, I’m one day closer to the Beach!!! Yay!!

Posted in Food & Drink, The Man, Weekend Funtimes with tags alcohol, drinking, liquor, rum, rum runner, vacation on September 10, 2008 by KimI’m are getting ready to go on….VACATION!! I have not slept all week, I really feel like every night since Monday has been like Christmas Eve. Tossing and turning, laying awake, saying “if I just close my eyes and relax, I’ll go right to sleep”, but my brain will not turn off. I have been so so so so busy at work in the last 4 weeks or so, that this is one of the first times in my life I’ve needed to get away before someone gets hurt. I suppose the workplace will not shut down without me. I’m going to try very hard not to obsess about the cell phone or the email, but you know.
So, we rented a house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a large house, and we’ve invited friends and family to come down for the week. I guess we’ll have about 10 or so people at any given time. I plan to divide my time equally between the pool and the hot tub, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and by alcohol, I mean Rum Runners. And by that, I mean my own personal Rum Runner Recipe, which includes dark and light rums, Malibu, something similar to Captain’s called Sailor Jerry, oj, pineapple and grenadine. I have a 2 gallon water cooler (pictured below) that I will fill with Rum Runner until it is almost overflowing, then I’ll sip a little off the top and put the lid on, THEN I’ll put my mouth directly under the spout and see how much I can drink without taking a breath. I can’t wait.

I am a non-blogger.
Posted in List-y, The Man with tags alcohol, blog, boring, craft, drinking, interest, knit, llst, photography, ponder, pressure, think on August 15, 2008 by KimI have not blogged in a while. Why is this? Too much pressure! Whenever I sit down in front of the computer, I feel uninspired. How do other people blog so successfully every day? I’m not sure how to approach this without feeling like it’s a chore, because it’s beginning to feel that way. I love to read other people’s blogs, but I kind of feel like I don’t always have interesting things to share. Maybe that’s the purpose, to discover things about myself that are interesting, I could just be too close to see that.
Let’s start by making a list of interesting things I do:
a. read blogs
b. listen to talk radio
c. knit, sew, etc (but not often enough)
d. commute
e. photography (not enough of that either)
f. work (I’m getting desperate here…)
g. drink alcohol
h. think about getting a swimming pool
ummm, that’s all, I think…
Let’s stew on that for a while…………

Posted in Weekend Funtimes with tags Fred, internet, radio, xm on July 26, 2008 by KimRight now I am sitting outdoors, in the backyard with Bill. We are enjoying cold adult beverages and just had a delicious dinner. Bill recently installed an outdoor speaker, so we are also enjoying XM on Direct Tv. Usually fans of The Loft, today we are listening to Fred, which seems to be an early alternative station. This station is the first thing I love. There are so many wonderful songs that I haven’t heard in ages by U2 and the Cure and the Smithereens. The music is playing outside through the television which is hooked up to the surround sound, and we keep going into the house to see who the current artist is. This led me to thing number two that I love…The Internet! There’s a website, xmfan.com, that updates every channel every 5 seconds to let me know the song and artist! I love the future.
Flickr-ageous!
Posted in Landscapes with tags leaf, leaves, rain, red leaves, wet leaves on July 21, 2008 by KimI have a few pictures uploaded on Flickr. I am very new to photography, I got a Rebel XTi for Christmas, that’s how new I am. Anyway, someone chose one of my Flickr pictures as a FAVORITE! That’s right, a favorite. I’m really really really excited about this. I really don’t think anything I’ve taken is that good (yet), but maybe there’s hope after all.
Here’s a little sample.
One of my favorites.
